Large Shin Deshojo Japanese Maple – JM015

$299.00

JM015 is a large, established Shin Deshojo Japanese Maple selected for its substantial trunk, mature branching structure, and dense canopy.

Shin Deshojo is one of the most celebrated Japanese maples for spring color. Its small palmate leaves emerge an exceptionally vivid scarlet to crimson red, with the strong spring coloration generally lasting several weeks before gradually transitioning toward reddish-green and green as summer approaches. Fresh growth later in the season can introduce additional flashes of red against the mature green foliage. In autumn, the tree produces another show with shades of red, scarlet and orange.

JM015 is considerably more developed than the small Shin Deshojo trees commonly offered through mail-order nurseries. The tree has a substantial established trunk and numerous primary branches beginning relatively low, producing a broad and densely branched framework. The close-up photograph shows the trunk splitting into multiple established branches just above the lower trunk, giving this specimen considerable structure to work with.

That branching is a real selling feature. Shin Deshojo responds well to pruning and naturally develops fine branching, one reason the cultivar has long been popular for bonsai as well as landscape use.

The summer-green foliage visible in these photographs is normal for the cultivar and shouldn't undersell it. The fireworks happen in spring. Shin Deshojo is specifically known for foliage that opens brilliant crimson or scarlet before becoming progressively greener during summer.

JM015 would make an excellent focal tree for a Japanese-inspired garden, shaded courtyard, entry garden or specimen planting, particularly where its spring color can be viewed up close.

This listing is for JM015. The exact individually photographed tree shown is the tree the customer will receive.

Mature Size & Growing Information

There's surprisingly wide variation in published mature-size estimates for Shin Deshojo. Missouri Botanical Garden gives approximately 5–7 feet with the potential to eventually reach 10 feet, Monrovia gives 7–9 feet at ten years, while some growers list roughly 8–10 feet.

For your product page I'd simplify that to:

Mature size: Approximately 8–10 ft. tall and wide
Growth habit: Compact upright to rounded
USDA Zones: 5–9
Light: Morning sun / afternoon shade in Central Texas
Water: Consistent moisture with good drainage
Soil: Moist, organically rich, well-draining soil
Growth rate: Slow to moderate
Deciduous: Yes
